Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a breathtaking, living monument to the colonial era. Originally built by the Portuguese in 1588 and extensively fortified by the Dutch in the 17th century, it is a maze of cobblestone streets, boutique guesthouses, and art galleries within massive granite walls. The fort is perfectly positioned on the edge of the Indian Ocean, offering sunset walks along the ramparts and a view of the iconic white lighthouse. It is fully walkable and very easy to explore.
